Exciting News

I have some wonderful news to share.
I am now a Dirty Girl!  That is, I’m part of the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen design team.
I was so excited when I was asked to join the team, it is such a huge honour!!!!!!!!

So I have been working very hard over the last few weeks making lots of cards for the Dirty Dozen and you can see them on Splitcoaststampers if you are a fan club member. If you’re not a member you can click here for more information.

Marina Flower

This week at JAI our challenge is to case Delys.
And this is the card I decided to case, isn’t it pretty!

My next club hostess asked if I would teach them how to make the ribbon flowers I do. So I thought I would case this card and use a ribbon flower rather than the punched flower as Delys has done.

When I was reading Delys’ description of the card, she said her background panel was done using a technique called Crayon Resist Technique.  It didn’t look like what I think of as crayon resist. I thought of the Crayon Resist tutorial done by Danielle Daws for JAI here if you’d like to see it.  So I decided to google the term to see if I could figure out how Delys had created her background.

I didn’t find it but I did find a technique called Crayon Rubbed Embossing that I had never seen before. I thought it looked very effective and so I decided to try it on my card instead but I have used the same embossing folder as Delys.  There is a Splitcoaststampers tutorial by Lydia Fiedler here if you’d like to try it too. It is a very different way of using your embossing folders.  I really like how it turned out and  now I will be able to teach my club ladies 2 beautiful new techniques this month :)

Ingredients :
Stamps : sincere salutations
Card : white, basic grey
Ink : stazon, marina mist
Other : marina mist satin ribbon, antique brad, white crayon, brayer, finial press ef, bird punch, scallop trim border punch

Please check out Delys’ blog and join us in casing one of her creations.

Baby Hedgehog

The challenge this week at Just Add Ink is to Just Add Pearls.

I made this baby card for my daughter’s teacher who just went on maternity leave.  We didn’t know whether she was having a boy or a girl so I tried to go neutral with yellow. This card was from all the families in the class and we bought her a little present as well.  She absolutely loved it :)

I’ll admit there are only a few pearls on there but they are still an important element of the card.

Happy Nature

This week at JAI we have a photo for inspiration.

JAI120_InspirationalPhoto

I was inspired by the colours of the crates on the wall.  I thought they were close to wisteria wonder and pool party.  I was also inspired by their rectangular shapes and that they were housing a collection of sorts.

The photo inspired me to use my grid technique again.  If you’d like to see a tutorial on how it’s done just click here.

Ingredients :

Stamps : en Francais, French foliage, perfectly penned, kindness matters, nature walk

Card : black, crumb cake, white

Ink : stazon, pool party, NQN, wisteria, eggplant, crumb cake

Other : Nothing (AMAZING!)

Please take a look at what the rest of the design team have come up with this week and let the photo inspire you to create something beautiful.

Congratulations Rita

rita blog hop badge

I have a very special post today.

Freshly Made Sketches is having a blog hop for Rita and because Lesley knows we are such good friends she asked if I’d like to be a part of the hop too.

Of course I was thrilled to wish her a big Congratulations and Best Wishes along with the rest of her friends on the team.

If you have come from the wonderful Jennifer Timko’s blog, “Welcome”  you’re in the right place.

This is the sketch we had to work with.  It is actually the last sketch Rita made for FMS before taking maternity leave.

FMS24-001

I know Rita is having a girl but I also know she doesn’t like pink very much (although I have noticed she’s been using it a lot more lately, perhaps carrying a little girl does that to you?) So I dressed “Laila” in purple.

I also know that Rita has chosen a grey and yellow colour scheme for Laila’s room.  So I wanted to incorporate those colours into my card for her.

My card will be flying all the way to Texas very soon.  I hope she likes it.

Little Trumpet

There is another great sketch for Merry Monday this week.

And I got this stamp this week and couldn’t wait to play with her.  It was a perfect match!  It has been a really wet, dark, cold and dreary day in Hobart today but I had a lovely time in my craft room colouring her and making this Christmas card  :)

Dinosaur boy

I needed to make a birthday card this week and thankfully they had another great sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration.

I did follow the sketch although mine does look a bit different I know.  It’s as if a dinosaur put his foot down right on top of it and it got a little squished. :)

IMG_4366

This is a giant dinosaur sized card for my boy.  No he’s not turning 3, but there were 3 panels and I wanted 3 dinosaurs on it.  He’s not a boy either!  He’s actually turning 26!  He was one of those boys who are absolutely obsessed with dinosaurs. Every book he read, story he wrote, picture he drew and game he played was about dinosaurs. So even though this is meant to be a kid’s set I just had to buy it and make a card for him to relive his childhood (plus he’s just a big kid anyway :)

Ingredients :

Stamps : Dinoroar, French foliage

Card : black, white, sahara sand, x-press it

Ink : NQN, pumpkin, garden green, versamark, bashful blue, stazon

Other : copics, big shot, tasteful trim, mat pack, white pen
