Sea Dad

This is my last week of being a guest designer with Freshly Made Sketches.  I have loved playing with all the lovely ladies on the team.  I can’t believe my term is up already and it’s a bit sad.

Anyway this weeks sketch is another great one and I decided to think outside the box and change things a little.

Instead of 3 brads at the bottom of the circle, I decided to use 3 letters and I was happy with how it turned out.

It’s a bit hard to tell in the photo but I stamped the ship onto vellum and dry embossed the sails to make them white and “puff them out” (technical term there! LOL).  It looks really 3D but I couldn’t capture it properly in the photo unfortunately. I sponged clouds onto a circle of white with baja and sponged NQN at the bottom for the sea and attached the vellum layer over the top with glue dots.

Ingredients :

Stamps : the Open Sea

Card : crumb cake, white, black, cherry, vellum card, ret. dsp

Ink :  stazon, baja, NQN

Other : library clips, big shot, timeless type alpha, stylus

I hope you’ll take a look at what the rest of the design team have come up with using this sketch and play along with us.

Thanks for having me on your team ladies, it’s been an honour :)

  6. This card really caught my eye with the beautiful clouds, the ship seeming to pop out of the scene, and the gorgeous sea below. I can only imagine how fabulous it looks in real life with the vellum sails seeming to billow out! Such a creative idea to use the vellum for both the ship and the log images. Beautifully done!

  10. I so wish I could see this card in person. If it's this amazing on the blog, it must be really something to see the puffed out sails! Beautiful job!

  11. Kathy, this is me bowing down to you. That ship circle looks store bought. I'm gobsmacked. This whole card is, well, honestly, it's hard to find a proper adjective because we use fabulous and beautiful and amazing over and over. The only word that even comes close is perfect.
