Peaceful Tidings

Well last week’s Merry Monday came and went and I didn’t get around to making a card for it :(   But the week before that LeAnne chose me as her top pick :) Thanks LeAnne.

Here is this weeks Merry Monday sketch.

I used the Tidings of Joy stamp set again for this week’s sketch but in a way that makes it look totally different.  I hope you’ll leave me a comment and let me know which one you like best.

I had seen some beautiful copic cards just using greys and I really wanted to give it a try with this stamp.  These are warm greys and they actually matched better with soft suede and espresso than they did with grey.  Kind of a sepia look I guess.

The ribbon is crumb cake seam binding and it looks much better IRL as it just kind of blends in with the dsp behind it while still noticing the nice sheen it has. In the photo it looks completely different and much more dominating than it really is unfortunately. You’ll have to trust me ;).

Ingredients :

Stamps : Tidings of Joy, Four the holidays

Card : espresso, suede, x-press it, mocha morning dsp

Ink : memento black, versamark, espresso

Other : clear embossing powder, crumb cake seam binding, copics

I was really happy with how this card turned out and I finally found a use for that dsp too.  (I love the look of it but I just haven’t been able to use it much?)  I think it will make beautiful Christmas cards :)

Copic Tidings

Lesley from Freshly Made Sketches has a wonderful challenge on her blog called Merry Monday.   It is a challenge to make a Christmas card each week so that by December you will have a nice little stash of cards to send out. This challenge started on the 2nd of January and I thought it was a fantastic idea because I was short a few cards last year and ran out of time and energy to make more. I just couldn’t make myself start though, I was really “over” christmas card making.
Well I decided to begin Lesley’s challenge this week. She is up to week 16!  It’s hard to believe we are that far into the year already. I am going to try to make 1 Christmas card a week along with her. (We’ll have to see how that goes).

I put my “snowflakes” (actually the star and button) on the opposite side to the sketch.

I didn’t have any copics last year when I made a few cards with this set, so I was keen to see how it would turn out.  Not too bad. I am sure I will make more cards with it using different colour combos and Lesley’s sketches during the year.

Ingredients :
Stamps : Tidings of Joy
Card : crumb cake, bashful blue, x-press it, ret. dsp
Ink : memento black, crumb cake
Other : copics, button (ret), square punch, dazzling diamonds

If I manage to keep up with this Christmas card challenge I will have over 30 cards by December.  A goal worth striving for I think :)

Tidings of joy

At Just Add Ink this week we have a wonderful sketch challenge from Bronwyn to inspire us.

JAI 90 - Sketch (BB)

I decided to make a Christmas card using my new Tidings of Joy set.
I did change the sketch a little to make it work.

I bought this nativity set because I didn’t have anything else like it (plus it’s cute) and I thought my girls and I would find it fun to colour some Christmas cards together.
I stamped the image using stazon onto shimmery white card and used my crayons and aquapainter to colour.
It was relaxing and fun!

Ingredients:
Stamps : Tidings of Joy, woodgrain
Card : vanilla, baja, crumb cake, shimmery white, daffodil delight
Ink : stazon, suede, white
Other : baja seam binding, crayons, aquapainter, nesties

Please have a look at what the rest of the design team came up with this week and give this sketch a try yourself.
