So glad we’re friends

This week at Just Add Ink we are casing one of the team, Mae Collins.

Mae also lives in Tasmania and since meeting her through JAI we have become friends.  As soon as I joined the team she was so welcoming and friendly. Getting to know wonderful people like Mae is one of the best things about being on a design team :)

So when I was looking at Mae’s blog for something to case, I just couldn’t go past this card of hers.

Instead of a happy birthday card though, I just had to use a “friends” sentiment.

I have kept the layout and card pretty much the same as Mae’s but I have coloured mine with warm grey copics for a sepia effect.

Baja violin

This is another violin card I have made for my daughter’s violin teacher.  I have been searching for card challenges and found a great sketch at The Friday Mashup.  This is my first time playing along with them.  It’s a great challenge site where they give you a couple of options.  This week you could do the sketch, mother of pearl technique or a combination of both.  I love doing mother of pearl, but I couldn’t see it working with this stamp and I have to get some more of these cards made.  So I’ve just used their sketch.

I have used a combination of blues, baja and not quite navy.  These are 2 of my favourite colours.  I hope the teacher likes them too!

Stamps : violin girl (MFT), the nicest things
Card : baja, NQN, white, x-press it, ret. dsp

Other : copics, baja seam binding, big shot, nesties

I think the little violinist is in more of a classical mood this time.

I had seen one of these “onesie” cards over on my friend Rita's blog a while ago and it was just so cute I had been waiting for an opportunity to try one.

She has a link to a tutorial by Becky Jensen here if you’d like to make one too.

Ingredients :

Stamps : confetti, the nicest things, teeny tiny sentiments

Card : white, shimmery white, pink pirouette

Ink : pip, stazon

Other : circle punch, scallop circle punch, button, aquapainter, crayons, rhinestones, scallop trim border punch

Why not enter our challenge? It will give you a great excuse to make something cute and you will have a baby card all ready for when you need one.  Please check out the sweet cards the rest of the JAI design team have created this week too.

Nicest Friend

With Anzac Day being this week, Just Add Ink has decided to focus on Mateship or Friendship.

I decided to use the Nicest Things stamp set to create this card for a friend.

My idea was to make the card look like an old-time scrapbook page or perhaps a bulletin board.  I watercoloured the girls, trying to make it look like a photo and left the bunny as a sketch would be.  I used dsp from the hostess paper pack, it is blushing bride.  I sponged crumb cake ink on it to age it a little though because it was too white.

I sponged the clouds using baja and a mask made with a scallop circle and scallop oval punch.  It was the first time I’ve tried this technique and I was really happy with how it turned out.  I think my watercolouring may be full of cloudy skies in the future!

Ingredients :

Stamps : The nicest things

Card : espresso, watercolour paper, confetti white, hostess paper pack

Ink  :  baja, espresso, stazon, crumb cake

Other :  crayons, aquapainter, sponge, scallop circle punch, scallop oval punch, linen thread, pip button, photo corner punch, library clip, spiral border punch

Why not send a card to a friend  this week “just because”.  Not for any   special occasion, but just to say Hi.

April 25th – Anzac Day

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. In 1917, the word ANZAC meant someone who fought at Gallipoli and later it came to mean any Australian or New Zealander who fought or served in the First World War. During the Second World War, ANZAC Day became a day on which the lives of all Australians lost in war time were remembered. The spirit of ANZAC recognises the qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice which were demonstrated at the Gallipoli landing.

Easter bunny case

I decided to make a cute little Easter card for the weekly challenge at Just Add Ink.  The challenge was to case a card from one of their founders.  Although both Amanda and Danielle have gorgeous cards, I decided to case Danielle.

It’s not an exact copy but it is definitely in her style.  I had the card fold at the top (which I rarely do, but she does quite a lot) and corner rounded the card at the bottom (another element that features strongly in her cards).  Other similar elements to hers are the clear embossing on the top third of the card and having a pretty bow.  I really like Danielle’s style – Clean and Simple and Gorgeous.

Ingredients :

Stamps : nicest things, teeny tiny sentiments

Card : river rock, watercolour, old olive

Ink : versamark, stazon

Other : watercolour crayons, aquapainter, ribbon (retired), clear embossing powder, wide oval punch, big shot, lots of tags, dimensionals

Making this card gives me the feeling of being really organised and ready for Easter, but Phew! I only just got this done in time for the challenge!  So I’m not really that organised!

Watercolour friend

Well, I haven’t posted anything for a while because I have been on holidays and just got home yesterday.  We went to 9 mile beach at Swansea and it was really beautiful.  We had absolutely awful weather (but I really can’t complain because a lot of people in Australia had it much worse than us last week that’s for sure!!!)

holiday

This is the girls enjoying the beach.  Can you imagine having a beautiful beach 9 miles long all to yourself?  That’s what we had right at our back door, it was wonderful.  We will have to go back again sometime soon and hope for some better weather.

The day we arrived was nice and the day we left.  In between it rained but luckily I had looked at the forecast before we went and knew it was meant to be awful, so I packed some stamping supplies for the girls and I to play with.  I took my Nicest Things set to do some watercolouring and when I got back I found a wonderful sketch challenge at Inkspirations that I thought would work well with the image.  Then I spent way too long making this card today rather than do the boring things that needed doing like cleaning, washing and unpacking!

Ingredients :

Stamps : The Nicest Things

Card : Choc chip, watercolour paper, very vanilla, baja blue, retired dsp

Ink : stazon, crumbcake, celery, baja, razzleberry, choc, pip, marina mist, blush blossom, neutrals crayons

Other : big shot, finial press, choc chip button, linen thread, aquapainter, scallop trim border punch

Praying that everyone affected by the floods has a friend, or makes a new one, to help them during this difficult time.

A watercolour challenge

I decided to play along with the Just Add Ink challenge again this week.  This time it is a colour challenge (and challenging it was!) You had to use Rose red, Old olive, Always artichoke and Pumpkin pie.  Together!  Well it’s good to venture out of your comfort zone and do something different for a change.
I also incorporated a sketch challenge from Splitcoaststampers which was a nice one and so it’s a double challenge card.
I decided to try out my new set, The Nicest Things (isn’t it sweet!) and do some watercolouring.  I haven’t done any for a LONG time and I really enjoyed it.
