Very Merry

This week at Just Add Ink we have a colour challenge for you.
The challenge is to use white plus one other colour.
I decided to use white and my favourite stampin up colour Baja Breeze.

I thought I would get Dasher out and make my first Christmas card for the year.  I had seen a great sketch challenge at Paper Players last week that I thought would be perfect for him.
My friend Rita had very kindly sent me a little care package with some samples of ribbon and other bits and pieces and this gorgeous baja seam binding was one of the goodies she sent.  Thanks so much Rita, what a lovely, thoughtful gift.
I actually used baja ink refill mixed with some frost white shimmer paint to stamp Dasher and I stamped the snowflake from winter post on the baja with it too. I also daubered some onto the embossed piece of shimmery white card.   It is very sparkly and pretty in real life.

Ingredients :
Stamps : Dasher, winter post, short and sweet
Card : baja, shimmery white
Ink : baja, versamark
Other : baja seam binding, baja ribbon (ret.), rhinestones, white embossing powder, big shot, wallpaper ef, rhinestone brad, frost white shimmer paint

I also made the same card in chocolate and white.

It’s very pretty too, I think it just needed white seam binding instead of taffeta to make it look that bit more “special”.
I have a huge Stampin Up order coming this week with more seam binding in it. Can’t wait!
I could (and probably should) make a whole collection of these cards in different colours, but I don’t like stamping that way.  I like to create different designs and challenge myself to come up with something new.  It might depend on how many cards I have ready by December though :)
Please have a look at what the rest of the JAI team came up with for the white with one challenge and give it a try yourself.

Wish Big

This is the second male birthday card that I had to make this week.  It is for my eldest daughter’s boyfriend, he is turning 23.  I used the same sketch again from the Inkspirations challenge and the same idea as my Starry Wishes card.  I just changed the background squares.
I am also entering this in the Anything Goes challenge at Paper Players this week.

I used the Classic Stars wheel this time. I rolled it in versamark and used white embossing powder on shimmery white card.  I then sponged bashful blue, marina mist and daffodil delight over the stars and punched out the squares.
So kinda the same but different.  Please leave a comment and let me know which one you like best.  I’m not sure, I was happy with how both of them turned out.
Ingredients :
Stamps : Pun fun, short and sweet, classic stars wheel
Card : shimmery white, crumb cake, NQN, pumpkin
Ink :  versamark, stazon, olive, pumpkin, daffodil, turquoise, bashful blue, marina mist
Other : white embossing powder, square punch, circle punch, cropadile, sponges, aquapainter

I got some great news too! I am now a Colour Queen Courtier! That just means that my Razzleberry Wishes card got an “honourable mention” at Colour Queen this week.  YAY!!!

Starry wishes

I have a scary week this week; going back to work AND 2 male birthday cards to make!!!
I found a great sketch challenge though at Inkspirations which helped me out a lot. (With the male birthday card that is, they were no help at all with the problem of having to go back to work!)

My youngest daughter is going to a friends birthday party on Wednesday and he is turning 6.  So I decided to try something colourful. I used the Brights family but subbed Concord Crush for Tangerine Tango, and matted these squares onto white and then night of navy.  I sponged the moon with sahara sand and basic grey and used my cropadile to put a few “craters” on it too! The moon, rocket and flame are in shimmery white (nice and sparkly!)

Ingredients :
Stamps :  Pun Fun, short and sweet, extreme elements
Card :  confetti white, shimmery white, real red, night of navy, concord crush, razzleberry, pumpkin, daffodil, melon mambo, olive, pacificpoint, turquoise
Ink :  versamark, stazon, olive, turquoise, daffodil, pumpkin, basic grey, sahara sand
Other :  square punch, circle punch, white embossing powder, aquapainters, cropadile, dimensionals

You can’t tell from the photo, but I have put some dimensionals under some parts of the “flame” and have bent it up and down, which looks better than it just being straight (which is how it looks in the photo).

Butterfly birthday

I have had the template for this cute butterfly bag in my Splitcoast favourites for what seems like forever, I thought it was so sweet.  So when we got the Bigz butterfly die in our catalogue I just knew that was a treat I was buying myself.

I have had the die for a few months now but hadn’t got around to making the bag, so when I saw the challenge at Just Add Ink this week was all about birthdays I knew just what I wanted to make and it turned out very cute if I do say so myself.

I also made a little gift card to go with it and I made it small enough to pop inside the bag. With a selection of hair ties or girly jewellery inside this would make a gorgeous present.

The template was created by Brenda Quintana if you’d like a copy see here.
