Island Prayers

Well it’s a new month and that means new challenges at the Splitcoast Stampers Creative Crew.
Here is the challenge:
CCREW0611CF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM - Catalog Focus:* FLOWERS*
Stampin' Up! has flowers! Ribbon Flowers, Rub-on Flowers, Button Flowers, Brad Flowers, Crocheted Flowers, Paper Flowers, Die Cut Flowers, Stenciled Flowers! The challenge is to use any flower except stamped flowers!

I had just bought my first flower die for the big shot and decided to use it for the challenge.  It’s the Island Floral Die.  It was actually in the Summer Mini catalogue but it was carried over and is still available.
I saw a gorgeous flower done by Nikki Spencer and she had a link to a tutorial by Joanne Leddy showing how she’d made them.  They are so gorgeous. I did mine the same way except that she used the fancy flower punch instead of the die, so mine is bigger.  I also don’t have the boho blossoms punch amazingly (I’ll have to rectify that soon!) I used a retired punch (trio flower, I think it was called) for my flower centre.  The other thing I did differently was that instead of spraying the flower with water, I sprayed it with white shimmer paint/alcohol solution. So it is very sparkly in real life.
Ingredients :
Stamps : Thoughts and Prayers
Card : vanilla, suede, pink pirouette, river rock
Ink : suede, crumb cake
Other :  Big shot, island floral die, square scallop die, beautiful wings, little leaves, vintage wallpaper, trio flower punch, pearls, brayer, square punch, piercing tool

I think the flower turned out beautifully and I’m very happy with my new purchase. Yay!
I hope you’ll try this challenge too.

  1. Wow, Kathy. I think this challenge was made especially for you. Your flower is an absolute stunner! The rest of the card is pretty gorgeous as well.

  2. Gorgeous, Kathy! I didn't like that die before, but I LOVE what you've done with it.

  3. I have seen this card in 'real life' and it is divine! I loved the flower, the framed effect, the scallop border and how Kathy had brayered ink on her embossing folder prior to embossing to put a little Crumb Cake colour (I think that was it) on to the Very Vanilla card. Just divine! ♥

  4. Stunning Kathy, l see you found your mojo..:0)
That flower looks fabulous done with that die, a really gorgeous card.

  5. This is a really beautiful card Kathy! Love the colour combo and your flower looks gorgeous :)

  6. Gorgeous Kathy! Love your colour combo, that flower...all your little details.

  7. one of the prettiest flowers I have seen!

  8. Your flower is gorgeous. So glad to see you tried with something different than the directions called for. Gave me confidence to do the same. I love the rest of the card too. Can't quite figure out how you made it though. Would you mind providing a few more details?

  9. Hi. The rest of the card was done by inking the wallpaper ef with crumb cake and a brayer and rolling it through the bigshot. Then, I punched out squares of it and glued them down onto large square of suede, making them look like tiles. I used the square scallop die to cut a scalloped edge in suede and pierced holes along top of it. I cut piece of vanilla and used scallop trim border punch along bottom edge. Glued these together and then glued on top of tile background. Hopefully I've answered your question Babs Y.

  10. Beautiful work ... love the flower! I'm so glad you enjoyed creating this little lovely ... it's a joy to see!

I love comments!
